Project information
    Project description
iThemba Labantu is a Community Centre based in the impoverished informal settlement of Philippi near Cape Town, South Africa.
We are empowering children and youth between the ages of 4-35 years through various educational programs.
In order to prepare them for the future we put an emphasis on education through technology.
The children use a computer and web-based English program called Reading Eggs that teaches them English in a playful and fun manner.
This program is used by over 250 children in our pre-school, primary school and aftercare homework program.
The older youths receive lessons in computer literacy and uses the computer for research for school projects.
At the moment only a limited amount of the centres’ children can access the computer as we don’t have enough.
So far most of the computers we received are second-hand. We are very thankful for these donations nevertheless we spend a lot of money on repairs all the time.
