Project description
The art of traditional African drum and dance.
We love Africa and we have made it our goal to preserve its culture in this fast changing world. The traditional art of ngoma (African drumming & dancing in Swahili) is our expertise, and our mission is to spread this art as much as possible. And not just ngoma - our dream is to help people discover their talents and through art improve their lives. Financially, emotionally and sometimes even physically. Karibuni wote!
Shine Africa exists of a group of professional drummers and dancers from different tribes in Tanzania. All of them also come from underpriviliged backgrounds (growing up without parents, on the street, in the slums) and their mission their mission is to use their talents to help young people from similar backgrounds. At the same time they want to spread their love for traditional African culture, which is why they both perform as well as teach classes.
Community Art Center and volunteers
Shine Africa is setting up its own Community Art Center as we speak. Children and adults can learn the art of ngoma and explore their artistic talents. The center will also offer English and computer classes, art classes, reading classes, meditation, yoga and help with homework. With this we hope to help kids discover their talents, increase their self-esteem and better their chances to live a good life.
We are a community art center that helps local kids discover art and their talents and in that way increase their self esteem and chances in life. Except art we aim to teach meditation, English and computer skills. This is also needed because then it’s easier for parents to give their consent to their kids to spend time at our center. These lessons haven’t started yet, but will soon. For the computer lessons we will need the laptops from Labdoo!
