Project information
Project description
SODEI seeks to contribute to bridging the digital divide affecting developing countries by providing access to laptops and tablets to beneficiaries of our programs at our youth centres and partner schools in the Southwest region of Cameroon.
We run Youth Resource Centres (YRC) and Tech Hubs in Limbe and Bangem in the Southwest region of Cameroon. Our YRCs and Tech Hubs host free creative arts and computer training programs among other activities. More than 100 young people have so far graduated and received certificates from our computer training programs and about 100 more currently undergoing training. Yet, our YRCs and Tech Hubs are poorly equipped, relying mostly on locally sourced, cheap desktop computers which are unable to host most software and run relevant programs and tasks including creative design and computer drawing/sketching.
Additional laptops and tablets will be instrumental in enhancing our computer training programs and better equipping the program beneficiaries with relevant computer skills. These devices will allow the installation of computer programs and software for advanced technical skills for young people.
Our Limbe centre currently hosts about 70 young people between the ages of 10 to 20, while our newly created youth resource centre in Bangem hosts more than 30 young people of a similar age range.
