Project description
BOOKS for CHANGE is a Swiss Non-Governmental Organization registered under the Swiss
Societies Act. 60. BOOKS for CHANGE seeks to transform the lives of children and communities
in India and Nepal by focusing on library establishment, advocacy, improving literacy and
gender equality in education. We collaborate with local governments, schools, communities and
families to ensure they understand the importance of literacy and how they can play a role in
enabling students to achieve their full potential.
Shree Jhaljhukhola Secondary School is located in Kistang Rural Municipality-01,
Bhalche, Nuwakot. It is at distance of around 92 kilometer from the capital city
Kathmandu. The school was established in 1961. It caters 181 students (93 girls
and 88 boys) coming from five wards (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7). There are 10 teachers
providing their service to the school. Among them, two are computer teachers (one
male one female). The school is surrounded by majority of Tamang and Dalit
community comprised of 1500 households. It is a small village located in a top of
a hill and requires 7-8 hours bus ride through muddy, rocky roads.
