Project information
    Project description
I Reach Out My Hand Africa started the learning center in 2020 under a tree as we had no
physical building by then, we humbly named it “Under The Tree Hub” as we very much appreciated obtaining the space to work from. Now we simply call our project “Mopani Learning Hub” because like the roots of a tree reaching deeper and the branches higher so do we reach many almost forgotten young people around the country. Also our place has a lot of Mopani trees which provide shade and in the rainy season a surplus of mopani worms that our beneficiaries love as a protein substitute. Our project is simply offering a reprieve to rural young people who have either failed to make it in the main-stream or have never had a chance to experience through learning or have career guidance one on one in their lives. We call this a space for undying talents, because we do our very best to resuscitate what would have died a silent death due to neglect and simply no concern. Our computers will help our participants reach out to the IT world, learn how to navigate technology and also create their own applications where possible. We refuse to say rural youth are not eligible to use technology and to say this, tragic as it sounds, some people reach old age without even knowing what a computer actually does, but in Selous that can't happen on our watch. Just to add, we had a session covered by Flight Wings Aviation and they took our learners on a journey of flight simulation right at the farm, a first ever in our community. Now you can see the endless possibilities of having computers.
We don't have teachers or students, actually we call them catalysts as they help our learners in reaching their desired goal, then participants as they are receiving nurturing and in return we always learn from our participants as well. That is the type of environment we have here. Also once a participants choice of career is then established firmly we call them by that, to solidify their career, eg if one wants to be a Professor. We say it as it is, "Professor Sharon” it breeds ownership and fun in learning. So a teacher is a “catalyst” And a student is a “Participant”
